Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has showered sops on sanitation staff in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. In less than 24 hours after giving a big hike in monthly wages, KCR announced free 2-bedroom flats in the heart of the city for them.


He also assured them that the government would provide medical care for them and their families. Around hundred sanitation workers, consisting of women mostly, called on KCR at his official residence in Begumpet on Friday. Addressing the gathering, Rao said that around 1,000 houses would be constructed each year for sanitation employees working in the civic body.


Unlike previous cases of houses built on the outskirts, TRS government would be building houses in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills. Stating that GHMC revenues would be increasing rapidly in the future due to foolproof measures adopted by the government in giving permissions and licences, he promised to increase wages of workers.


Meanwhile, the Chief Minister appealed to the workers not to fall into the trap of unions since the government was very considerate towards them. He said that few ‘Andhra parties’ were behind the indefinite strike in GHMC. What was the need for a strike when the government itself was very considerate towards demands, he asked.
