Preparations for Bonalu festival under way
Preparations are under way in full swing for Ashada Jatara Bonalu which will start from Sunday at Golconda fort. A committee headed by Union Minister Bandaru Dattreya held a review meeting here on Friday. The meeting, which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Excise Minister Padma Rao and other MLAs from the city, decided to ensure that street lights glow, fill up all potholes and make provision for drinking water.
Festival is meant to ward off evil and usher in harmony and peace
Hyderabad: Preparations are under way in full swing for Ashada Jatara Bonalu which will start from Sunday at Golconda fort. A committee headed by Union Minister Bandaru Dattreya held a review meeting here on Friday. The meeting, which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Excise Minister Padma Rao and other MLAs from the city, decided to ensure that street lights glow, fill up all potholes and make provision for drinking water.
The committee also decided to install CCTV cameras for surveillance and beef up security at the fort. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao along with family members, Ministers, MPs and MLAs would offer prayers to goddess Mahakali on Sunday. Lakhs of devotees are expected to visit the fort for darshan during this period.

Apart from Golconda fort, several Mahakali temples located in Secunderadad like Ramgopalpet, Pan Bazar, Mettuguda, Bhoiguda, R P Road and M G Road, Paradise, YMCA, Patny and Ranigunj will also be celebrating the festival on the same day. Bonalu is an important Hindu festival dedicated to the Goddess Mahakali and is held in the month of Ashadam.
The festival is celebrated to ward off evil and usher in peace and harmony.The GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar inspected the sanitation works near the Golconda fort. He was accompanied by Additional Commissioner for Sanitation N Ravi Kiran and several other officials during the inspection.
