Hyderabad: The people of Hyderabad who have not completed seeding of Aadhaar with their electoral ID card are at the risk of losing their voting rights. Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announced this during a meeting with Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal at his residence on Monday.

Telangana State government is totally committed to implement National Election Commission’s directive to all states to link voter ID and Aadhar card. He requested Bhanwar Lal to complete the process in Greater Hyderabad at first and later in all districts.

With delimitation of GHMC wards due, it would be good if election commission completes this formality before that, Rao said. He stressed on wide publicity to create awareness among the public about the ‘Aadhaar-voter ID linkage’ drive. If people failed to respond even after that, the commission should remove the respective names from the voters list, he said.

According to some estimates, there are about 15 lakh bogus voter ID cards in Greater Hyderabad alone. Normally voters comprise 66 per cent of a city’s population but in Hyderabad the voter figure is more than that, a top official explained.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Hyderabad with 24 constituencies out of the total 119 constituencies plays a crucial role in the State politics. “Any irregularity in such area is not good for democracy”, he said and appealed to all the political parties to co-operate with election commission in this exercise.
