There were doubts whether the ash-smeared Naga ascetics, the most fascinating and radical of all the Sadhus, would make their appearance in Pushkaralu or not. Apart from Paloncha-based Vishwa Shanti Charitable Trust - Sadhu Sammelanam, the State government also publicised that a mega ritual called “Vishwa Shanti Maha Yagam” would be organised by the Naga Sadhus during the Pushkaralu.

Besides this, there was also huge propaganda that the presence of Aghoris during the event. The Minister for Endowments, A Indrakaran Reddy, on May 23 said that the government would provide accommodation and other facilities for the Maha Yagam as no less 3,000 Sadhus from Varanasi alone were expected to turn up at Bhadrachalam during the Pushkaralu.

However, the Maha Yagam was slated to begin last Wednesday, the second day of the Pushkaralu, there was no word of Naga Sadhus and their Maha Yagam either from the administration or from the local trust that was said to be looking after the arrangements. Earlier, it was said that the arrival of Naga Sashus was deferred due to delay in arrangements for the yagam.

Later, it was speculated that an opposite group of Sadhus intentionally spread the news that the administration was not up to the mark in providing facilities to conduct the Yagam. In fact, a pandal was erected for the conducting the Yagam besides providing other facilities for the comfort of Sadhus near Sarapaka village.

In this backdrop, a 40-member Sadhu contingent, which arrived in Sarapaka on Tuesday, started Maha Yagam. However, there was no official confirmation, it is learnt that the administration had earmarked Rs 1.30 crore for the arrangements of the Maha Yagam.
