The new method promises to give 2.5 times the traditional yield with less water consumption and sowing seed quantity

Nizamabad: A veteran scientist Loka Kishan Reddy of Nizamabad district invented a new sowing method in soya bean cultivation. In this method, only six kilograms of soya seed per acre is enough for sowing instead of 30 kilograms and also the yield has been 2.5 times more than that of traditional system. If the farmers of Telangana State can apply this method, nearly Rs 120 crore per year can be saved on soya bean seeds and face the seed scarcity problem successfully.

Loka Kishan Reddy is a retired scientist of Nizamabad district who is known to the farmers of the district as ‘Yeruvaka Kishan Reddy’.Every farmer has the Kishan Reddy’s phone number and would seek suggestions from him on various problems of cultivation. Kishan Reddy worked as a Principal Scientist at Agriculture Polytechnic in Jagityal of Karimnagar district and Senior Scientist at ‘Yeruvaka Centre Nizamabad’.

He earlier invented many things related to turmeric, paddy and other crops and currently involved in experiments related to Soyabean. In Nizamabad district, soya crop comprises 3 lakh acres and all over Telangana State, the soya crops are over 10 lakh acres. Each farmer uses a minimum of 30 to 40 kilograms of soya seed per acre in traditional method.

A kilogram of soya seed costs Rs 50. If farmer uses only 6 kilograms of soya by implementing the new method, the additional seed cost of 24 kilograms on each acre is waived off. Nearly Rs 1200 per acre can be saved on each acre. In Nizamabad district, farmers can make a profit of nearly Rs 36 crore and Rs 120 crore all over Telangana State.

In the last few years, the Soya farmers in Telangana faced seed scarcity and the subsequently the seeds were imported from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh States. During the months of June and July, the farmers struggle a lot for seeds and consequently they would resort to buying of spurious seeds. Resultantly, they lose the crop. However, the new method is the solution to solve seed scarcity problem in Telangana State.

In the traditional method, the farmers spray the seeds in the field and provide water. Since the seedlings grow in disorder without the support of drip irrigation system, it takes 6-8 hours to provide water per acre. But in the new method, farmers use drip irrigation system and provide water to the soya been crop within two hours per acre.

Usually the traditional method farmers spray the seeds in the field. As a result, more number of soya bean seedlings grow and strive for water and end up a low yield. But in the new system, soya saplings grow strong and give good yield. Kishan Reddy said in this system and every sapling gives 50 to 100 grams yielding and farmers should obtain 24 quintals yield per acre.
