Hyderabad: Four brand new Toyota luxury SUVs were added to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’ convoy on Wednesday. This decision was taken in view of security inputs to maintain uniformity of vehicles. Chandrasekhar Rao is touring districts extensively for the last few months - be it attending Haritha Haaram or some other government programmes. With the soon-to-be-launched Grama Jyothy scheme, he is expected to make a whirlwind visit of various districts once again.

Earlier Chandrashekar Rao’s convoy consisted of four Toyota Fortuners and two Prados, which were bought when Kiran Kumar Reddy was at the helm of affairs as Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. These same vehicles made up the Chief Minister’s convoy after he assumed charge in June 2014. Rao got the colour changed to white within three months.

According to sources, the cost of each Land Cruiser Prado is nearly 1.3 crore. These swanky SUVs, known for robust, sleek and distinctive features, were upped on security quotient at BDL (Bharat Dynamics Limited) in Hyderabad. Also they were taken to Yadadri temple where priests performed prayers after which they were added to the convoy.

Officials of the security wing claimed that presence of different model vehicles posed terror threat. It was easy for assailants to identify the four-wheeler in which the Chief Minister was seated earlier. But now this problem could be overcome. The purpose of having same type of vehicles was the most important feature for any VVIP convoy, they said.

It may be mentioned there that a state-of-the art firefighter, which is also bulletproof, was added to CM’s convoy in April this year. Six police personnel could be seated at a time in this vehicle which also has five outlets for the police to open fire in case of terror attacks
