Appoint VCs in 3 months
The PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad on Thursday directed the state government (Telangana) to appoint Vice Chancellors to various universities in the state within three months. The bench comprising Acting Chief Dilip B Bhosale and Justice SV Bhatt was dealing with a public interest writ petition filed by Forum for Good Governance through Padmanabaha Reddy.

The PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad on Thursday directed the state government (Telangana) to appoint Vice Chancellors to various universities in the state within three months. The bench comprising Acting Chief Dilip B Bhosale and Justice SV Bhatt was dealing with a public interest writ petition filed by Forum for Good Governance through Padmanabaha Reddy.
It was the case of the petitioner that universities in the state namely Osmania, Kakatiya, Telangana, Mahatma Gandhi, JNTU, PS Telugu University, BR Ambedkar Open University, Palamuru, Satavahana and Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts were functioning without a full-fledged VC.
He pointed out that the universities were functioning with less than 50% of the prescribed teaching staff. The government, in its reply, said it would take 6 months’ time to fill the posts of Vice Chancellors, but the bench only granted it three months.
