Hyderabad: The Congress leaders will organise a protest at Gagillapur (Husnabad) in Karimnagar, opposing the government’s move to abandon the Thotapalli project. The TPCC president, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, and others will visit the site on Wednesday.

Recalling that the late Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had laid the foundation stones for three projects - Thotapalli, Gandipalli and Gouravelli - under Mid-Maner reservoir area in 2007, the TPCC chief said the projects were aimed at irrigating 49,000 acres.

He said the TRS government had promised to ensure irrigation for one lakh acres in each Assembly constituency. But, it appeared that the government was casting away the projects in midway. The government’s actions were driving the farmers to commit suicide, he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Chief Minister was kicking up controversy on almost all projects which were taken up during the Congress regime. Right from change in design of Pranahita-Chevella, the government was creating controversy on every issue. He felt that the Chief Minister was more interested in taking credit for all project at the cost of development.
