Telangana stands second among all States in recording highest number of farmer suicides

Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday alleged that the TRS government had failed to fulfil the election promises. The regime had in fact earned notoriety for the newly- formed State by failing to tackle the farmers’ suicides.

The State stood second on this count among other states which recorded a number of farmers’ suicides. Addressing the partymen after hoisting the national flag at Gandhi Bhavan, he said the Congress party had given a separate statehood to Telangana. The Congress party, despite strong opposition from several quarters, contributed to the statehood for Telangana.

But, the people unfortunately were misled by “false promises” made by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. He recalled that it was on Independence Day in 2014, the Chief Minister had promised to distribute three acres of land to each Dalit family. “KCR must answer as to how many Dalit families were benefited by the scheme” he questioned.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress had protected the identity of nation as the biggest democracy among the comity of nations. Some political parties were creating divisions among people in the name of religion. The BJP, which came to power on the plank of anti- corruption, was mired in corruption.

He cited the failure on the Prime Minister to take action against “tainted Ministers” to drive his point home. The BJP government had failed to keep its promise to bring back the black money from Swiss banks.
