Officials to hold brainstorming session next month. The Telangana State Irrigation Department will hold a brainstorming session on the implementation of phase-I of Mission Kakatiya either at Nagarjunasagar or Walamtari in September.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Irrigation Department will hold a brainstorming session on the implementation of phase-I of Mission Kakatiya either at Nagarjunasagar or Walamtari in September. The sole objective to hold the session is to enable the engineering staff to narrate their experiences while executing restoration works in the first phase of implementation between March and August.

  • Workshop to be organised either at Nagarjunasagar or Walamtari is intended to secure feedback from engineering staff on the ground in the first phase of operation
  • Higher officials feel that the experience of the staff will enable them to draw up foolproof plan to take up the second phase which will witness restoration works on over 9,000 water bodies

It is also aimed at securing feedback from the staff on the ground the problems encountered by them, besides seeking their views and suggestions for accelerating the operation in the second phase. According to a senior engineering official, the workshop will help them draw up a foolproof plan for the second phase.

The next phase will begin in October after identifying works in all districts. The operation in the second phase will be completed at any cost by December. The works in second phase are designed to restore 9,406 water bodies and they will begin in the New Year, according an official.

In the first phase, the department was able to take up works to revive 8,000 lakes. Works on 6,500 were completed. Removal of silt, and weeds, mowing of long grass, bund repairs and widening, besides restoration of feeder channels, and FTL demarcation works, were completed.

With Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam district recorded rains for the last few days, majority of the lakes are filled with water to the brim presenting a pleasant picture, the officials said.
