Nizamabad: Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said the Union government would be launching the ‘U-Win Smart Card’ in September and it should be helpful to 40 crore unorganised sector labourers in the country. The Minister was in Nizamabad to participate in Golla-Kurma Mahasabha (Goat and Sheep Community Meeting) and organised a media meet at R&B Guest House.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the Union Labour Ministry was trying to increase transparency and accountability in Labour Ministry and was taking the help of technology. Stating that the smart cards would be launched in September, Dattatreya said that it would be useful to unorganised sector labourers like construction workers, sheep rearers, beedi workers and others.

He said that various State governments imposed the one percent cess on building constructions and collected nearly Rs 19,680 crores but spent only Rs 280 crores. The Union Labour Ministry would try to spend the amount for the welfare of construction workers.

The Minister said that the cabinet sub-committee on minimum wages comprised of Union Ministers for Economy, Coal, Power and Labour would meet on Tuesday and take a decision on minimum wage in the country.

Dattatreya further said the Union government increased the Beedi workers house construction amount from Rs 40,000 to Rs one lakh and would also provide maternity benefits. He informed the media that the Labour Ministry released the 7 crores for Nizamabad district for scholarships to the children of beedi workers.
