Hyderabad: Telangana State Director General of Police Anurag Sharma said here on Wednesday that the police would effectively thwart any attempts by the Maoists to stage a comeback in the State.

He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of a function organised to launch “Social Media Management Centre” (SMMC) and the new website of Cyberabad police at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.

Sharma said that there was no Maoist ideology left in the State. “Our policy is very clear; we will not allow them to regain ground. We will not give any scope for them to resurface in the State and any attempts will be effectively foiled,” he said.

He explained that the Maoist ideology was not developing again as being presumed. “There is literally no ideology left there.” On the Tuesday’s encounter in which two alleged Maoists, including a woman, were killed, he said the Grey Hounds teams had credible information on the movements of the extremists.

In an exchange of fire between the police teams and the Maoists, two persons were shot dead. They were identified as Shruthi alias Mahathi and Vidyasagar Reddy. Shruti had completed B.Tech and was pursuing M.Tech.

In reply to a question, the DGP felt that some youths had joined the Maoist movement basically because of personal choice. He emphatically said “there is no recruitment of students.” He further said “Literally no ideology is left in the movement. Personal reasons and personal convictions have led to some joining the Maoist groups.”

Sharma also launched the SMS gateway for citizens, GPS for patrol vehicles in IT corridor, smart phones and other equipment for patrolling and interceptor vehicles along with Wi-Fi routers and broadband for all police stations in Cyberabad. The Cyberabad police also launched official accounts of Facebook and Twitter to connect with the people and gather their feedback.
