To conduct safety audit to devise strategy for protection of women

Hyderabad: The city- based NGO VOICE 4 Girls is partnering with the British Deputy High Commission to conduct a safety audit of public spaces in the city. The audit is part of a three‐month project to spread awareness on gender-based violence.

The team will be working closely with the SHE teams to help map unsafe areas for women and recommend measures to improve safety.

“Empowerment and protection of women’s rights is a key UK priority. In Telangana State, as elsewhere in India, we support initiatives that strengthen government capacity to protect the rights and safety of all women, particularly young women and girls,” said Andrew McAllister, the British Deputy High Commissioner, Hyderabad.

“This project, working with VOICE 4 Girls, is focused on college students and adolescents and will deliver a series of five events designed to increase knowledge and awareness of issues like gender discrimination and sexual harassment, especially in schools and colleges.

Most importantly, it will offer strategies and practical solutions to tackle them.” he said. The audit will be launched at St Ann’s College, Mehdipatnam on Saturday (September 26) with a workshop around safety and violence for 50 college girls from the city.

“Information around safety, violence, abuse and rights is as important for urban, college going women as it is for school children in government schools,” said Anusha Bharadwaj, the Executive Director of VOICE 4 Girls.
