KCR unveils Kaka’s statue on Tank Bund. Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has unveiled the statue of former Union Minister G Venkataswamy at Tank Bund on the eve of latter\'s 86th birth anniversary on Monday.

Assembly Speaker Madhusudhana Chary, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Telangana Ministers Naini Narasimha Reddy and A Indrakaran Reddy, Venkatswamy's sons and politicians G Vinod and G Vivek and other family members took part in the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Rao termed Venkatswamy, popularly known as Kaka, as Telangana's political Bhishma because of his long political career. He was not perturbed despite being hit by a bullet during 1969 agitation and went on to actively participate in statehood agitations for several years afterwards, KCR pointed out.

He fought for the welfare of labourers and introduced pension scheme for them. Also, he was instrumental in reforms undertaken in Panchayat Raj sector, the Chief Minister said. “Kaka is a true role model for present day youth,” he felt.

Heaping praises on the departed leader, Union Minister Dattatreya said that Venkataswamy rose to a top position in life inspite of all odds and humble beginnings. G Venkataswamy, born on October 5, 1929 passed away due to age-related ailments on December 22, 2014.
