Ruling TRS MLAs on Wednesday pleaded with the State government to upgrade their Assembly constituencies to districts in the reorganisation of the existing 10 districts proposed recently by the government.

Hyderabad: Ruling TRS MLAs on Wednesday pleaded with the State government to upgrade their Assembly constituencies to districts in the reorganisation of the existing 10 districts proposed recently by the government.

An official committee headed by State Chief Secretary Rajeev Sharma has already constituted to carve out additional districts for better governance and easy access of administration to the people.

In the question hour, M Yadagiri Reddy from Jangaon Assembly constituency said that his constituency deserved to get the status of district headquarter as the segment was already a major revenue division in Warangal district.

The constituency was also a central point between Hyderabad-Warangal industrial corridor, he said and added that the creation of small districts would help to address the people’s issues instantly and also ease administration.

B Shankar Naik from Mahbubababad assembly segment said that the creation of Mahbubabad district had been pending before the governments for decades.

During Nizam’s rule, the constituency was one of the highest earning revenue division in Telangana. Dornakal MLA DS Redya Naik supported Naik’s demand and said the tribal dominated area would be developed fast if the division was upgraded as district.

Mancherial MLA from Adilabad district, Diwakar Rao, said his Assembly constituency was the biggest segment (area wise) in Telangana.

Former Chief Minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, promised to create Mancherial district but it did not happen due to some political reasons. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao already announced the creation of district in 2014 election campaign, he said.

Ashwaraopet MLA (Khammam district) T Venkatewaralu asserted the need to create Bhadrachalam as a new district in view of increasing popularity of the temple town after the bifurcation of the State.

Deputy Speaker Padma Devendar Reddy (Medak), J Janardhan Reddy (Nagarkurnool), and Shadnagar MLA Anjaiah Yadav, spoke about the necessity of making them districts.

However, Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue minister Mahmood Ali did not give any assurance on carving out districts from the assembly constituencies.
