Hyderabad: A two judge bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice A Shankar Narayana directed the Registrar NTR Health University to respond either in person or through a counter on the question of admissions to Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences.

The bench was dealing with a batch of petitions filed by aspiring doctors. The college, under the ownership of Malkajgiri TDP MP Ch Malla Reddy, was denied affiliation after the Medical Counsel of India conducted inspection and found that the college did not meet certain criteria.

Aggrieved by the action of MCI, the MP approached the Delhi High Court for admissions. The Delhi High Court on September 30, 2015 directed the college authorities to go ahead with the admission process.

Though the order came on the last day for making admissions, the college filled 75 seats out of the 150 seats through management quota.

The remaining 75 seats of the Convenor quota were not filled. Many aspiring candidates filed petitions seeking directions to the college to fill the remaining seats.

S Niranjan Reddy, counsel for the medical college informed the court that the college was willing to fill the remaining 75 seats through Convenor quota provided the court accorded some more time for filling these seats beyond the deadline.

“What do you say about filling the remaining seats and what are your rules saying about approving the admissions already made under management quota,” the bench enquired.

When the counsel for MCI informed the court that they had written a letter to the college seeking an explanation as to how the admissions were made on a single day to fill the 75 seats under management quota, the bench voiced its displeasure.

Speaking for the bench Justice Subhash Reddy pointedly said “Already the September 30 deadline was over. And you are leisurely writing letters now.

I want your registrar to act fast. Either he has to file his counter within one day or he has to come to the court tomorrow to assist us to resolve the issue” and adjourned the matter to Wednesday.
