Hyderabad: Telangana CID is ready to summon some MLAs as witnesses in connection with the alleged siphoning of funds under Indiramma housing scheme that was implemented between 2004 and 2014.

  • 25,560 fake beneficiaries found
  • 250 crore siphoned off in 20 Assembly constituencies

The CID had recently grilled the employees of the Housing department in regard to the complaints of misuse of funds in the scheme. Based on a random study which revealed that Rs 250 crore have been siphoned off in 20 Assembly constituencies in Telangana region, during the undivided Andhra Pradesh in the housing scheme for poor, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao ordered an inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of funds in June last year.

The interim CID report said the construction work for 94,400 houses, allotted to the beneficiaries by the Housing department, were not taken up and the beneficiaries were also found to be fake. The highest number of 25,560 fake beneficiaries have been reported in Mahbubnagar followed by Adilabad (14,470), Medak (11,048), Karimnagar (9,250), Nalgonda (8,590), Ranga Reddy – (8,100), Warangal (6,584), Khammam (6,376) and in Nizamabad (4,222) houses were allotted, and the funds also have been released but no work was done in the last four years.

Sources said irregularities in the allocations of housing to the poor were found in the constituencies of Nagarjuna Sagar (represented by CLP leader K Jana Reddy), Kodada and Huzurnagar (represented by TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy), Gadwal (DK Aruna), Manthani (Sridhar Babu), Jangaon (Ponnala Laxmaiah) and Kama Reddy (Mohd Ali Shabbir).

Irregularities are also said to have taken place in the constituencies represented by TDP leaders A Revanth Reddy (Kodangal), Errabelli Dayakar Rao (Palakurthi) and S Venkata Veeraiah Sattupalli.

It is alleged that local leaders in these constituencies created fake documents and drew money on fake names as beneficiaries. In the field visit, the investigating agency found the houses were visible only on paper and not at the sites. In some cases, money was released but the construction was not completed. As per the guidelines, money should be released to the beneficiaries only after completion of works.

According to sources, the probe into the alleged role of the employees has been completed. Departmental action had already been taken against some corrupt officials.
