With the demand for English medium schools on the rise among the parents and students, the Telangana government has decided to turn all the government schools into English medium.

Online and offline training for 10,000 teachers planned

Hyderabad: With the demand for English medium schools on the rise among the parents and students, the Telangana government has decided to turn all the government schools into English medium.

The new mode would be introduced from the next academic year to bring reforms and to make students compete at the global level. It may be mentioned here that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had already announced that all government schools would be turned into English Medium.

While the government has decided to introduce English medium, what remains a big challenge is finding instructors.Hence, the Directorate of School Education had designed a programme to train 10,000 teachers and 5,500 headmasters with English communication skills, computer skills and Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system.

Accordingly, the government has decided to spend Rs 18 crore from both Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Rashtriya Madhayamik Shiksha Abhiyan funds towards the teacher training programme.

Apart from the offline training, the government for the first time has come up with the online training too. The government has also enhanced course duration from three days to 15 days from this academic year.

Starting from this December, the training programme will come into force for teachers and headmasters. The government intends to complete training programme for all the teachers before the commencement of the next academic year.
