Hyderabad: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) has served an ultimatum to private engineering and management colleges over the payment of Common Service Fee.

The University, in its notice, directed 150 engineering colleges to pay the fee accounting to Rs 60 crore to the varsity by October 28. It also warned of severe consequences if the dues are not cleared on time.

The colleges collect Rs 1,500 from each student during admissions as part of the Common Service Fee. However the institutions fail to pay to the university as they use it to disburse the salaries of its staff.

Telangana Private Engineering and Professional Colleges Managements Association President N Goutham Rao confirmed that colleges have already received notices to pay the fee but lamented, “When the government doesn’t release the fee reimbursement arrears, how can colleges pay the fee to the university?”

It is learnt that the University has threatened to stall the next semester examination by not supplying materials to the colleges which do not clear dues on time.

“This is a routine process and this time the university served notices to colleges. Exams are scheduled in December. If government releases the arrears, colleges will clear its dues,” Goutham said.
