Hyderabad: With the battle lines drawn for the bye-election to the Warangal Parliamentary constituency, TTDP on Saturday requested its politically ally BJP to zero in on a common candidate to take on the formidable TRS.The two political allies have decided on the arrangement that BJP will field its candidate for Warangal bypoll while the TDP will fight for the ensuing election to the Narayanakhed Assembly constituency.

The two parties, which constituted a coordination committee with E Peddi Reddy from TDP and P Chandrasekhar Rao from BJP, will announce the candidate on October 28. The leaders of the two parties attended by TTDP president L Ramana and his BJP counterpart G Kishan Reddy held talks for more than an hour and discussed in detail the poll strategy to be adopted, which is considered as a litmus test for the ruling TRS and opposition parties.

In the recent past, the opposition parties have stepped up their fight against the Telangana government on farmers’ suicides and loan waiver scheme. Majority of the TDP leaders are in favour of fielding a candidate from BJP following strong indications that the winning prospects of the TDP– BJP combine are bleak, according to sources.

“If the TDP candidate gets defeated it would demoralise the party,” a senior leader said. In 2014 election, BJP leader R Parameshwar as TDP– BJP candidate lost the election. It is learnt that many aspirants from BJP are in queue to test the waters.

Taking the election a prestige issue, BJP was scouting for capable leaders even from other parties. Former TRS leader and former minister A Chandrasekhar was approached by the party high command recently. A decision on the his candidature will be taken in a few days, sources said.
