Several tractor loads of waste is collected from vegetable markets and households across Siddipet everyday and sent to the vermin-compost manufacturing facility located at Mandapally on the outskirts of Siddipet.

The rotten vegetables and household wet garbage is left to rot by pouring water on it every day for 40 days. Big rotten vegetables are run through a pulveriser which further grinds them. The heaps of garbage turn black and turn into compost. The blackened compost is placed in pits and earthworms are released. The compost is again soaked in water daily for the next 40 days. The earthworms feed over it, turning it into vermin-compost, an organic fertiliser.

Then the compost is strained and exposed to open air for a few days. Later they are packed in bags and made available in the market. A kg of vermi-compost is sold at Rs 5 by the Siddipet municipality. The plant also manufactures bio-gas from rotten vegetables.

Siddipet Municipality has taken steps to segregate wet garbage from dry garbage while collecting waste from the markets and households. While vermin-compost is manufactured from the wet garbage, the dry garbage is sent to Godavarikhani and Karimnagar for power generation, paving to encourage organic farming and generation of power from the waste.
