Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Telangana unit, is contemplating a proposal to field former TRS leader Gunde Vijaya Rama Rao in the upcoming Warangal Lok Sabha by election.

The former TRS leader, who is in political hibernation for the past two years, has emerged as front runner along with Pagidipati Devaiah and V Jaipal. Sources in the BJP told The Hans India that Vijaya Rama Rao was approached by the party and he expressed his willingness to fight the election.

Sources said that the party, after considering Rama Rao’s political experience and popularity in the Warangal Lok Sabha constituency, is likely to declare him as the party candidate. The party, however, intends to announce its candidate only on November 2.

The BJP leaders are of the view that Rama Rao can give a stiff fight to the TRS as he has a strong hold in at least three Assembly segments out of seven in the Warangal Lok Sabha constituency. They feel that the TDP’s support will boost the BJP’s prospects.

Vijaya Rama Rao is one of the senior most Dalit leaders in Telangana state. He scored a thumping victory in 2004 Assembly general elections by defeating Kadiyam Srihari when the latter contested on the TDP ticket.
