Narayankhed: The TRS has stepped up its campaign to wrest the Narayankhed Assembly seat. Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao has launched operation attracting the leaders and also activists not only from the Congress but also from other parties.

The Congress Party won 10 times from the constituency out of the 14 times elections were held. Independent candidates won and TDP won twice each.

In the 2014 general elections, though there was a favourable wind for TRS, the Congress had won from the constituency. With the untimely death of Kishta Reddy, the sitting Congress MLA in August, byelection has become necessary and TRS has eyed the constituency in the coming elections.

Since September 15, T Harish Rao, Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, Ministers K Taraka Rama Rao, Jagadish Reddy, Pocharam Srinivas and others have been touring the constituency extensively. Harish Rao has been not only communicating with caste-based organisations but also other professionals in the civil society, drawing them closer to the TRS party.

He has been sanctioning funds for various developmental works all of a sudden. In all Mandal headquarters he has sanctioned 30-bed health-care centre and in Narayankhed he has granted permissions for 50-bed hospital through “Janani Suraksha” scheme. On a single day, he has started 10 sub-stations and promised another two sub-stations.

Through special development scheme, on a single day he has sanctioned Rs 6.74 crore for 120 developmental works across the constituency. Through these developmental works he has started “operation attracting activists from the opposition parties.”

A few Sarpanches and MPTCs have already joined the TRS party and more are expected to jump on to the bandwagon. Harish Rao has been visiting the villages on foot to find out the problem being faced by the people.

TDP leader and former MLA Vijayapal Reddy has not yet revealed whether he was in fray for the party ticket to contest. The BJP and the YSRCP too have stepped up campaign.
