Hyderabad: Issues pertaining to town planning were crucial for a planned city and would be taken up by streamlining the department, said Dr B Janardhan Reddy soon after taking charge as GHMC Commissioner on Saturday. He assured that problems would be cleared online in the coming days.

The Commissioner said the road repairing works would be taken up with modern equipment and suggestions from citizens would be solicited. A separate cell would be created for the purpose. Somesh Kumar handed over charge to the new Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and soon senior officials, additional commissioners, zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners and all the heads of various wings of GHMC,

staff and drivers’ union members met the new Commissioner and presented bouquets. Janardhan Reddy said he would address every issue of sanitation workers within a week, as they played a vital role in making the city cleaner, greener and pollution-free. The Commissioner also appealed the citizens to cooperate with the GHMC for overall development of the city.

He said only with the public participation, the civic body could improve basic amenities like sanitation, electricity and drinking water facilities. Commenting on the road repairing works, the Commissioner said the road repairing works would be taken up with modernised mechanism.

He said the civic body would take suggestions from the citizens and a separate cell would be constituted with the help of Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEMPA) department and GHMC would monitor it.
