The Government of Telangana has decided to gift 5,500 auto rickshaws to as many Muslims at a subsidy of Rs 70,000 each. That is approximately Rs 3.85 crore. This money is coming from the taxes paid by all the citizens irrespective of their religion.

The Government of Telangana has decided to gift 5,500 auto rickshaws to as many Muslims at a subsidy of Rs 70,000 each. That is approximately Rs 3.85 crore. This money is coming from the taxes paid by all the citizens irrespective of their religion. 88% of the population is Hindu and 95% of the tax monies of the government come from them. The subsidy on the autos for Muslims is like the Rs 1000 crore subsidy for the Haj pilgrimage to Muslims. These subsidies are in the nature of the zezia tax that was imposed by some Muslim rulers on their Hindu subjects in the past. The revival of zezia indirectly is unbecoming of a government that should be secular. What sin have the poor Hindus committed for not being eligible to such subsidised supply of auto rickshaws? The Hindu poor must not merely resent but resist this zezia and if the government does not relent and withdraw this subsidy or does not give the same amount of subsidy to 38,500 (i.e., there are 7 times as many Hindus as Muslims) Hindus.
