A notorious chain snatcher who committed series of chain snatching within a few hours of release from jail was apprehended on Saturday, said Malkajgiri DCP R Rama Rajeshwari. During a press conference at her office on Sunday, Rajeshwari said Bachuppala Venkat Sai alias Sandy from Nalgonda district had been committing snatching offenses for a long time and was convicted by courts for snatching gold chains from women at Kushaiguda and in Warangal. After releasing from Warangal Central Prison on October 23, he came to the city and committed two chain snatching offenses at Kushaiguda.

On verifying the CC camera footage at the Kushaiguda market, the crime team suspected the accused would be an old offender. When the team verified the crime records, the accused was identified and other teams were alerted about him. On Saturday, at about 3 pm, the accused Sai was apprehended near Radhika X Roads, on a tip-off that he was moving on a Pulsar bike (AP 29 AU 5811), the DCP said.

“When he was intercepted and checked, gold chains were found in his trousers. On thorough interrogation, the accused confessed to have committed a series of snatching offenses. He also told the police that he had been mortgaging the property in Manappuram Gold, a private finance company with the help of branch manager B Ravinder (27).

A case has been registered against absconding Ravinder and the crime team is searching for him,” Rajeshwari said adding that gold chains worth Rs 2.5 lakh and a stolen bike had been recovered from the accused.Keeping tab on jail released offenders had helped the teams detect several cases and it had given good results in nabbingoffenders, she added
