Three-day intl food meet from today

The National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) will be hosting the 11th International Food Data Conference (IFDC) here from Tuesday.

Hyderabad: The National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) will be hosting the 11th International Food Data Conference (IFDC) here from Tuesday. The three-day event is being jointly organised by the International Network of Food Databases (INFOODS), Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and NIN, according to a NIN statement.

This is the first time that IFDC is to be held in India. The conference will be inaugurated by Dr Sowmya Swaminathan, Secretary, Department of Health Research, Union government and Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Dr Ruth Charrondierre. Coordinator INFOODS, would be among those present. The theme of the conference is Food Composition and Public Health Nutrition. Over 350 delegates from more than 50 countries are taking part in the technical sessions, poster presentations, plenary sessions and discussions during the meet.

“The need for high quality food composition data which gives not only the nutrient and non-nutrient factors but also the contaminants in foods is being increasingly recognised worldwide. The 11th IFDC will explore the scientific importance of food composition in various realms of public health nutrition drawing on the connection between what we consume and how we live,” T Longvah, Director Incharge, NIN said in a statement.
