Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma here on Monday directed the officials to chalk out an action plans for extensive planting of saplings under Haritha Haram programme next year. Speaking at a review meeting at the Secretariat, the Chief Secretary sought details of saplings grown in various nurseries in the State as well as saplings planted in various parts of the State.

Rajiv Sharma directed the officials of the HMDA, GHMC, Forest and other departments to chalk out action plans and get ready to take the plunge and get ready for planting saplings as per the targets set. He also advised them to ensure participation of people’s representatives, NGOs and officials of all departments in the programme.

He also asked the district Collectors to submit reports on planting of saplings and the number of nurseries in their respective districts, besides selecting ideal spots to plant saplings along the Outer Ring Road. The Chief Secretary advised the Forest and Road and Buildings (R & D) Departments officials to identify spots on the either side of roads for sapling plantation drive.

Stressing the need to take steps to revive the forest areas in every district, the Chief Secretary asked the officials concerned to identify at least 100 acres in hilly areas and surrender to the Forest department for giving fresh lease of life to the dwindling forest cover in the State. He also suggested forming of Haritha Haram committees in the villages and rope in the people representatives in the programme.

He also asked the GHMC to prepare micro plans for planting of saplings continuously. Special Chief Secretary of Municipal Administration M D Gopal, R&B Principal Secretary Sunil Sharma, Finance Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Forest Department Secretary Vikas Raj, Excise Commissioner R V Chandravadan, HMDA Commissioner T Chiranjeevulu and several others were present at the State-level steering committee meeting.
