The fact that its nominee Siricilla Rajaiah, former MP, who along with his wife and son, dug himself in a deep trouble following the death of his daughter-in-law and three grandchildren in a fire accident that took place Wednesday morning left the Congress leaders in a state of shock.

With just few hours left for the nominations, the TPCC was caught in a piquant situation whether to replace Rajaiah or not. After a quick round of consultations with the AICC observer for Telangana State Digvijay Singh and other senior leaders in Delhi, the TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy swung into action over possible replacement.

Former Union Minister Sarvey Satyanarayana, who was one of the aspirants for the party ticket, was consulted. But his immediate answer was no. Following this, the TPCC chief reportedly alerted former Wardhannpet MLA Kondeti Sridhar, former Minister G. Vijayarama Rao and another contender Rajarapu Pratap to get ready with the nomination papers.

Meanwhile, Sarvey was told to file papers by Digvijay Singh. After dillydallying for a while, Sarvey rushed to Warangal to file papers. Uttam Kumar Reddy also dashed to Warangal with a blank B-form.

Later, Sarvey told to media persons that he had filed papers only after the AICC president Sonia Gandhi directed him to do so. He expressed confidence that Congress would wrest the seat from the TRS.

Earlier in the day, Rajaiah reportedly expressed his inability to contest in the by-election as he was shell shocked over the death of his daughter-in-law and three grandchildren.

Meanwhile, the political circles in the district are abuzz that this could well be the end of Rajaiah’s political career who represented Warangal Lok Sabha between 2009 and 2014. He lost the seat in 2014 to TRS candidate Kadiyam Srihari with a huge margin. The by-election was necessitated by the resignation of Srihari after he was made Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana.

It’s also believed in the political circles here that it could be advantage TRS as the Congress had fielded a non-local for the by-election.
