Telangana government is keen to boost the tourism and hospitality sector as part of which specific initiatives are being taken to boost the potential in the capital and also other districts with unique strengths in the sector. It is proposed a new innovative Tourism policy to incentivise the investors to attract more private investments into the Tourism sector in the State.
As the government is committed to encourage tourism in large scale, it has sent a proposal to Skal World Tourism Congress and won the bid for the conference in Madrid by beating the Bangkok in the race for hosting the one of the most prestigious international tourism conference in the world –Skal-2017- in Hyderabad.
After many years of hard work, the bid was voted in favour of Hyderabad in a Skal World Congress 2015. Nearly 1500 delegates from 83 countries will descend to this conference to be held from October 5 to 8, 2017 in Hyderabad.
The conference is expected to improve tourist footfall in Telangana and attract investments moe from private parties. The State may also look at declaring either year 2016 or 2017 as Visit Telangana Year, in view of Skal-2017.
Tourism and hospitality professionals in Hyderabad received a boost when Hyderabad was shortlisted align with Bangkok, Stavanger, Toronto, Miami and Copenhagen. It is a fillip to Hyderabad and newly formed Telangana has got to host in the face of stiff competition from five other Skal clubs based all over the world. This event will also be providing an opportunity to showcase Hyderabad to the Travel and Tourism professionals of most International destinations.
Opportunity for Hyderabad to host the event reinforces the belief that the city is a first class destination for business and leisure travellers and it is a timely confidence booster for the newly formed state. It is yet another feather in the cap of Hyderabad and just born state of Telangana, which all of us must feel proud about.
Leaving behind India’s more traditional business centres such as Mumbai and Bengaluru, the city of pearls Hyderabad is the best city to live in the country, as per a global survey conducted by consultancy firm Mercer’s ‘Quality of Living Report-2015’ . The parameters taken into account for the survey include political and social environment, medical and health care, public services, recreation facilities and natural environment, among others.
Nowadays, Hyderabad has become hub of conferences, hosting many international conferences, the city has attracted worldwide.
Today, Hyderabad has been progressing well as an events destination occupying second spot nationally following Delhi. With the conscious efforts the government is making to attract events and conventions, the State is hopeful of grabbing the first place this year. The government is keen to support the growth of tourism and hospitality industry and is open to look at the tax concerns which may prevail at present.
While Hyderabad airport is providing e-visa to travelers, at district level the government is all set to encourage tourism in all the key districts on the eve Skal-2017. Warangal will be developed as a Buddhist circuit and the government determined to also promote less known destinations in the State to ensure that that the tourist arrival rate increases with the government’s efforts and are able to attract investments into the sector.
In the year 2012, 2.35 lakh foreign tourists visited Hyderabad, whereas the domestic tourist arrival shows a significant raise by 85% to 9.14 crore over the previous year.
Telangana is the real heart of India and the meeting point of North and South. The state is endowed with panoramic nature, rich culture and heritage, and other attractions. Pilgrim spots associated with Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity, and Islam are in the state. Besides Hyderabad which is a city of international stature, the state would be promoting Warangal, Nagarjunasagar, Badrachalam, and Adilabad as key tourist spots in the State. The State is participating in key travel and tourism exhibitions both in India and overseas to promote our destinations.
In case of niche tourism products the State wanted to highlight in the international market, as the State has unparalleled infrastructure in Medical Tourism, MICE Tourism, and Academic Tourism. Hyderabad is both a Medical Tourism and MICE Tourism hub of India. Lot of people visit Hyderabad for superior medical treatments from Central Asia, Middle East and Africa.
At present, the Telangana Government follows the Tourism Policy of Andhra Pradesh, 2010 which clearly defines the objectives of the policy encouraging private investments in the tourism sector and generating employment opportunities among others.
The Developing tourism circuits-Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) has initiated a separate “Ramayana circuit” and also plans to develop the Kakatiya Heritage Circuit. It also plans to develop tourist destinations-Khammam and Warangal will be developed into smart international cities.
Tourism infrastructure will be developed at Nagarjuna, Sagar, Karimnagar, Ramappa, Kinnersani, Kothagodem and Gajwel. The Ministry of Tourism, GOI, has identified the potential of rural toruism projects in Telangana are Pochampally Rural Toursim Project, Nalgonda, Nirmal Rural Tourism project, Adilabad, Cheriyal Rural Tourism Project and Pembarthi Rural Tourism Project Warangal.
The State also planning to set up Business District & Trade Towers to promote MICE tourism in the state as a Public Private Partnership model, the cost of the project being INR 5290 crore.
The Government is planning to develop a cinema city spread over nearly 2,000 acres to promote tourism in the state. Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) also operates leisure based cruises and water sports. Some recommendations for the state include developing tourist circuits, setting up of Skill development centres and promoting regional accessibility.
