Mahbubnagar: Expressing concern over increasing dropout ratio of girl children in the district, District Collector Dr T K Sridevi directed the officials from District Education Department and Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Department to work in coordination and device strategies to reduce girl child drop outs and increase female literacy ratio in the district.

While taking part at a training programme organised by District Education Development Committee, at ZP Hall on Saturday, the Collector stressed that discrimination against girl child would be abolished only when value education is imparted to the children.

She also highlighted that all problems plaguing the society could be addressed only by providing 100 per cent literacy to the people. At present, the literacy rate in the district is 56 per cent of which males constitute 65.21 and female constitute 44.42 per cent. “Education is the only weapon to eradicate poverty and discrimination against the girl child in the society. Therefore, the officials from all the departments concerned must work in coordination and ensure that the girl child education is improved in the district,” said the Collector.
