Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has given his nod to Telangana government relaxing the upper age limit for job aspirants in the police department by three years in recruitment exams. The Chief Minister had approved the recrutiment of 9,000 vacancies in Police and Fire departments through exams and the new age-relaxation norms will be implemented with these exams that are to be conducted soon.

In the past 12 years, it is the biggest police recruitment drive being taken up in Telangana. For the Police constable posts for general category candidates, the upper age limit has been raised from 22 years to 25 years and the age limit has been raised from 27 years to 30 years for reserved category candidates (SCs, STs, BCs). Even for the sub-inspectors, the upper age limit has been raised by three years, for SI posts, the general category candidates will have the age limit upto 28 years while the reserved category candidates will have upto 33 years.

KCR also directed officials to strengthen the police communication department as only three constables are currently working in the department with 332 posts lying vacant. The Chief Minister issued orders to the officials to fill the vacant posts in one go.
