Hyderabad; The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) have refuted allegations of favouring candidates belonging to a particular surname in the recruitment test for junior assistant grade –II posts.

Addressing newspersons at Telangana State Council of Higher Education here on Thursday, SCCL, Director of Personnel and Welfare Jay Pavithran Kumar said a probe by the Vigilance department of SCCL and the University on the allegations proved to be baseless.

The SCCL has entrusted the work of conducting the recruitment test to JNTU-H as number of candidates exceeded 10,000. Osmania University students and TS Congress leaders alleged that two members each from 70 families got posts as they have same surnames. There were also allegations that five candidates belonging to the same family surname Bandi got selected through fraudulent means. Pavithran said there were 301 candidates with surname Bandi, 272 with Vemula, 296 with Thota, 237 with Bandari and 204 with Mekala.

“ During the probe, it was found that out of five candidates having Bandi surname, three candidates belong to category BC-D, one BC-A and one to BC-B category. With regard to the three candidates from BC-D, their father’s names are different and they hail from different places. The vigilance enquiry has revealed that they are not related to each other. There was no resemblance in their OMR sheets. This clearly says that examination is conducted in a transparent way,” he added.

He said if any one approached with proof regarding any sort of malpractice or illegality, their names will be kept confidential and thorough enquiry will be conducted and necessary action will be taken.

JNTU-H, Prof. NV Ramana Rao, Convener of the exam said the University has requested the Cyberabad Police to conduct a thorough enquiry with regard to the allegations over the conduct of exam and take severe action against those responsible for spreading rumours.
