Warangal: With the D-day, November 21 polling date, fast approaching, the high-voltage contest for the Warangal Lok Sabha seat byelection will witness a line-up of big shots from all major parties campaigning for their respective candidates. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will also campaign in the next few days. The only exception is TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu.

Never before any election in Warangal has witnessed such an influx of leaders descending on Warangal constituency to campaign for one or the other candidate. Up against the might of ruling party, which, in fact, has deployed half of its Council of Ministers just to retain the seat, the Opposition Parties have taken it seriously and are making every effort to rope in their top leaders for campaigning.

Besides the TPCC functionaries, N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Bhatti Vikramarka, the party is also using the services of senior leader S Jaipal Reddy, Leaders of both the Houses K Jana Reddy and Shabbir Ali. Party in charge for Telangana Digvijay Singh, former Speaker Meira Kumar, former Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and other leaders are expected to campaign for Sarve Satyanarayana on November 16 and 17. Former Minister Sachin Pilot was also roped in for the campaign.

While KCR is set to address a public meeting at Arts College Grounds on November 17 in support of party candidate Pasunuri Dayakar, the BJP-Telugu Desam combine has failed to prevail over Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is unwilling to take up the campaign for the alliance candidate P Devaiah.

Though Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and other BJP leaders are trying their best, Naidu is unlikely to campaign in Warangal. It may be mentioned here that TDP has a strong cadre in the district. In fact, the party had won two Assembly seats in the district in 2014 elections. However, Naidu, who has been maintaining a low profile since the cash-for-vote scam came to fore, does not want to give space for another round of differences between AP and Telangana governments, party sources said.

On the other hand, the YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will spearhead the campaign in support of party nominee Nalla Surya Prakash. From November 16 to 19, Jagan will address election rallies in Hanamkonda, Station Ghanpur, Thorrur and Parkal, according to YSRC Telangana president Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. Meanwhile, the Left Parties-proposed candidate Gali Vinod Kumar is banking on CPI (M) and CPI State Secretaries Tammineni Veerabhadram and Chada Venkat Reddy for the campaign. Efforts are also on to bring in the CPM national general secretary Sitaram Yechury, party sources said.
