TS govt to spend 100 cr on Raj Bhavan makeover

Hyderabad: Telangana State and AP Governor’s official residential complex, Raj Bhavan, which is among the most important notified heritage buildings in the city, will now get a facelift, apart from being made vastu compliant at an estimated expenditure of about Rs 100 crore.

Telangana State government has given a final shape to a proposal for providing additional amenities and improve the infrastructure in Raj Bhavan.

The officials of the State Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department told The Hans India that the entire Raj Bhavan would be renovated by altering the existing structures and also constructing new buildings, which includes staff quarters for Raj Bhavan employees. Three types of quarters - A- type for gazetted officers, B- Type for subordinates and C –type for class lV employees would be built on the Raj Bhavan premises.

The Central Building Division(CBD) of the State R and B Department has already called for tenders, inviting private contractors to execute works. The officials said a new community hall to seat over 500 people would also be built.

The new hall will be equipped with high-end audio and video projector system with centralised air-conditioning system.

Renovation works will also be taken up in the Durbar hall (Governor’s office). Durbar hall was built in 1936 and is part of the main residence building of the Governor. The other new constructions coming up on the Raj Bahvan premises spreading over an area of 21.50 acres of land include a school building and police barracks for the security staff. All the constructions would be made vastu compliant. The officials said the estimates for the renovation and new construction of the buildings has been put at Rs 97.50 crore and the cost may go up to Rs 100 crore depending on the changes required at the time of construction.
