Mahabubnagar: District Collector T K Sridevi on Tuesday directed the officials to speed up Indira Jalaprabha (IJP) works in the district.

The Indira Jalaprabha scheme is meant for providing irrigation facilities and related activities to poor Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes families under RIDF of the NABARD in convergence with MGNREGS. The scheme has been launched by the State government. The project is a once in a life time investment for the poorest of poor SC and ST farmer families.

The main objective of IJP is to consolidate the gains made in the “land development project” of MGNREGS and to ensure sustainable and comprehensive development of fallow lands for providing livelihood to the poor.

The SC and ST farmers, who were assigned agriculture land, will be given all assistance by the government for drilling borewells . The farmers will also secure government support to clear the lands of boulders and bring them under cultivation.

So far 1,065 farmers applied for the Indira Jalaprabha scheme in the district. The district administration had given sanction to 944 applicants and financial support was already provided to 545 beneficiaries.

The Collector, while reviewing the progress of the scheme, instructed all the departments to work with dedication. Transco Superintendent Engineer Ramudu, and other officials attended the meeting.
