Hyderabad: The city police on Thursday rescued the 28-day-old baby boy, who was abducted from her mother at Secunderabad Railway Station on Tuesday night and arrested the owner of a fast food centre in Secunderabad.

On November 16, T Ramadevi (22) of Khammam district was sleeping at car parking in the Secunderabad railway station along with her son. At around 5 pm, Suresh, an acquaintance of the woman and Mohammed Arif, the fast food centre owner, approached her and asked to sell her son for Rs 5,000, but the woman refused. At about 10.30 pm the next day, while she was at the parking area, Suresh arrived there. Rama Devi told Suresh to take care of her son for some time and went to attend nature’s call.

When Rama Devi returned, she realised that Suresh kidnapped her son and she approached the Gopalpuram police and lodged a complaint.

During investigation, the police identified the accused Mohammed Arif who lives at Hakimpet in Tolichowki. On questioning, Arif confessed that his elder sister got married about 10 years ago and did not have children. Doctors confirmed that she could not deliver a baby due to some ailment and his brother-in-law was intending to leave his sister.

In order to solve his sister’s problem, Arif approached his friend Suresh and requested to provide a child and offered money. Accordingly, Suresh abducted the baby and sold him to Arif for Rs 12,000 and he was absconding after that. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, North Zone Additional DGP Y V Giri said the accused Arif was arrested and a team had been working on to nab Suresh.
