Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to give away Swachh Champion Awards to civic workers, who achieved 100 per cent sanitation in their respective divisions in the city limits.

The GHMC is planning to project efficient workers as role models

Addressing the media, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said that apart from honouring the civic workers, the Corporation is also planning to project them as role models to other sanitation workers. He added that not a single city among 7,000 in the country has achieved 100 per cent sanitation yet.

He opined that the main reason behind this was due to lack of public involvement in day-to-day sanitation activities in their respective municipal bodies. Noticing this, the Commissioner said that citizens in the GHMC limits will be given top priority in all its initiatives.

Commenting on the road repairing works, Janardhan Reddy said that the GHMC has so far identified about 4,380 pot holes in the city limits.

He added about 30 emergency teams, four road doctors, and others will be equipped to repair them in 15 days.

He also pointed out that the GHMC has already started re-carpeting about 1,000 km black top (BT) roads in the city limits.

The Commissioner added that apart from third party quality checking agencies, the civic body would involve local residents and colony welfare associations to verify the quality of roads so that Corporation could be accountable to the citizens.
