Hyderabad: The Union Ministry for Housing on Saturday clarified that no discrimination was shown towards Telangana State with regard to sanction of affordable houses for urban poor under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana (PMAY), the housing for all mission.

The Ministry, in a press release issued here on Saturday, said the Telangana government through a letter dated November 17 addressed to Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, forwarded 26 housing proposals with a request to place them for consideration of Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) which was to meet the next day.

Though the proposals of the Telangana government were received late, they were included in the agenda for the meeting of CSMC, it said. The Telangana government, in its letter, clearly stated that the SMSC approved 26 housing projects for further consideration. Committee on the very next day, approved all the 26 housing projects proposed by the Telangana government for construction of a total of 10,890 houses in 10 cities in the State, the statement said.

The Ministry further said though there were four components under PMAY in urban areas for taking up construction of affordable houses for urban poor, the Telangana government proposed the said 26 housing projects only under one component, Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP). When asked by CSMC about the estimated demand for housing stock for urban poor, the representative of the Telangana government informed the committee that it would be in the range of about 13 lakhs in urban areas of the State and more proposals would be sent to the Ministry of HUPA in due course, the statement said.
