Drivers to protest against lower rates charged by private cabs

Hyderabad: Telangana Auto Drivers’ JAC has called for a daylong auto bandh on November 30 to protest against Uber and Ola cabs indulging in uneconomic competition with autos illegally and to protest against spot challans being issued instead of e-challans.

Addressing the media here on Sunday, JAC convenor Mohd. Amanullah Khan said, “As per Section 67 (d) of MV Act, it is the responsibility of the government to prevent uneconomic competition among the public service vehicles such as autos and taxis. For this purpose, different rates of fares were fixed in respect of autos and taxi cabs. But Uber and Ola Cabs have been charging lesser rates per kilometer than autos in violation of the MV Act.

The auto drivers are being deprived of their peak hour fares between 11 pm and 5 am. Consequently, there is a simmering discontent among auto drivers in the twin cities. The drivers are now left with no other alternative than to go on a strike and intensify their agitation.” Telangana Auto Drivers’ JAC leaders J Ravinder, Mohd Dastagir, Mohd Azeemuddin, J Vamshikrishna, Syed Ghouse Lucky and Farooq Bhai were present.
