GHMC move to conserve energy

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed to appoint “Energy Volunteers” to ensure proper maintenance of over four lakh streets lights in the city. Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed to appoint “Energy Volunteers” to ensure proper maintenance of over four lakh streets lights in the city.
GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer B Janardhan Reddy said several street lights were found not being switched off even after sunrise and thus wasting energy.
Therefore, in order to ensure that street lights were switched off on time, the GHMC has proposed to appoint representatives of Residential Welfare Associations by appointed them as “Energy Volunteers.”
The decision was taken during a teleconference the Commissioner had with the senior officials on Monday.
