Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday asserted that better coordination was required between all departments for the speedy completion of the prestigious ‘Water Grid’ scheme, aimed at providing potable water to every household by 2018. The Chief Minister reviewed the scheme at a high-level meeting with the officials of the Rural Water Supply (RWS), the implementing agency of the programme, Roads & Buildings, Energy and Irrigation departments.

The officials brought to the notice of the CM that works have been stalled in some areas due to pending clearances to lay water pipelines, intake wells and water treatment plants from different departments including Railways. They said the Railways department objected to digging pits at railway crossings in many areas in the districts. Chandrashekar Rao asked the officials to give up the earlier practice of dragging the projects for years on different grounds.

He said the present government had simplified procedures for land acquisition, designs, tenders and fund releases, and wanted to speed up the works and complete them in a time bound manner. The CM stressed the need to maintain quality in the works, and asked the officials to adopt advanced technology ensuring proper maintenance after completion of the project. Panchayat Raj Minister K T Rama Rao, Government Adviser (RWS) Gnaneshwar and RWS Engineer-in-Chief Surendar Reddy were also present.
