State Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said that a team comprising him and Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari would be going to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister on December 2 to submit a report on drought conditions and also ask to increase cotton purchase price and give Rs 5,000 per acre to the cotton farmers who lost the crop.

Nizamabad: State Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said that a team comprising him and Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari would be going to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister on December 2 to submit a report on drought conditions and also ask to increase cotton purchase price and give Rs 5,000 per acre to the cotton farmers who lost the crop.

Speaking with the media at the district TRS office on Friday, Pocharam Srinivas said that the Warangal Lok Sabha constituency results have increased their responsibilities and that they would work with seriousness to develop Telangana State. He said that the team would be meeting the PM and Union Ministers and ask to release drought relief from Union government.

He expressed hope that the Union government would release relief to the drought-affected areas. The State government already announced 231 mandals in Telangana State as drought-prone areas.

The Agriculture Minister that the government was not encouraging paddy sowing in Rabi season because of drought conditions. Also, in order to encourage farmers to sow dry crops and vegetables, the government increased the subsidy on dry crops and vegetables seeds from 33 per cent to 50 per cent.

The Minister also said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was taking measures to revive the Nizam Sagar command area in Nizamabad district and increase additional catchment area in the district through Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation scheme. With the Lift Irrigation schemes, Nizamabad district would obtain sowing water throughout the year through Nizam Sagar project, he said.

Pocharam Srinivas Reddy also said that the State government was speeding up the Nizam Sagar main canal modernisation works. Already, 11 packages were completed. Also the distributaries strengthening works were being started with Rs 400 to 500 crores, he said. Pocharam said that the TRS government was taking permanent measures to solve drought conditions in Telangana State.

Pocharam express hope that the TRS party will win all the 12 local bodies MLC seats which would be held election on December 27.
