Sangareddy: CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury came down heavily on the policies of the NDA government at the Centre and urged the party cadre to get ready to launch social movements in economic and social fields both in and out of Parliament to counter the policies of the Modi government.

He was speaking at a high-level CPI (M) meeting in Sangareddy on Sunday. Senior leader Sarampally Mallareddy inaugurated the programme by hoisting the party flag at Keval Kishan Bhavan. Addressing the gathering, Yechury said that Narendra Modi had promised to increase the minimum support price (MSP) of agricultural products to 150 per cent, but failed to do so.

He said the farmers’ suicides had increased to 19 per cent under Modi’s rule. He pointed out that though fuel prices had been falling globally, they had been increased nine times in India since the NDA came to power. He warned that serious problems would arise due to the ever increasing prices of commodities, putting heavy burden on the people. He also said that production in manufacturing sector had fallen from 6 per cent in September to 3 per cent in October.

Talking about the increasing attacks on Dalits, STs and other minorities, Yechury said religious extremism was being encouraged under the NDA regime. He observed that social justice was a necessary thing at present and that a BC sub-plan needed to be implemented, in addition to providing reservations in private sector. He also found fault with the Prime Minister for neglecting the problems of the people, but instead going on foreign tours all the time.

He called upon the party cadre to inherit the spirit of Telangana armed struggle as he felt that even after the formation of Telangana, the problems and backwardness still existed. CPI (M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram, politburo member B V Raghavulu, Central Secretariat member Srinivasa Rao and other leaders were present.
