Baby swapping in Suryapet area hospital alleged

Nalgonda: Alleging swapping of new born babies in the hospital, relatives of two women, who delivered babies at Area Hospital in Suryapet, staged a protest at the hospital on Monday. A pregnant woman Lavanya, a native of Koduru village of Jajireddygudem mandal, has delivered a baby at 12.41 pm on Monday in Suryapet Area hospital.

Similarly, Pushpalatha, resident of Gudiwada village of Kethepally mandal, also delivered a baby at 1.05 pm in the same hospital. After bathing the babies, the hospital staff has tried to hand over girl child to Lavanya, but she rejected to take the girl baby claiming that the hospital staff told her that she gave birth to a male baby. Tension prevailed on the premises of the hospital with the relatives of Lavanya and Pushpalatha staging protest and counter protest at the hospital.

The relatives of Lavanya were not convinced even after the hospital authorities shown them the records of the operation theatre and pointed out that the time and sex of the baby was written on the hands of the mothers immediately after the delivery. They were insisted for DNA test to find the fact. Suryapet police also verified the records of the hospital. They were trying to find a solution to the issue.
