Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has decided to conduct Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and District Selection Committee (DSC) separately.

A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting convened by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari with officials of School Education Department at the Secretariat here on Monday. Clearing the air on the issue, Srihari said the government would conduct TET and DSC separately.

The norms prepared by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) would not allow them to conduct a common examination for recruitment of teachers, he said. The Minister said the TET was only taken as eligibility criteria for DSC and DSC was a screening test for teacher recruitment. He added conducting a common examination was against norms of NCTE and may lead to legal tangles hampering the recruitment process of the teachers.

Further the government has decided not to give eligibility for the students who are in the final year of DEd or BEd courses for appearing for the TET. The Minister said 20 per cent weightage would be given TET for calculating final score in the DSC examination.

It may be worth mentioning here that schedule for the TET was already released by the government. The exam is scheduled on January 24. The Minister said the registrations for the examination will begin in couple of days.
