Delivering a special address at Gandhi Bhavan on the occasion of 23rd anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, Congress MP from Kishanganj in Bihar Moulana Asrarul Haque Qasmi said the Constitution had guaranteed equal rights, freedom and justice for everyone in the country. However, the BJP and other Hindutva forces had been trying to alter the Constitution to deprive the Minorities of their rights.
The MP attributed the BJP’s inability to put its hidden agenda into operation to its lack of strength in Rajya Sabha. The BJP was trying to win Assembly elections in more states to increase its strength in the Upper House, he said. Moulana Qasmi said the people of Bihar had spurned the communal agenda of BJP and its allies in the Assembly elections.
On the Seemanchal region, he said the people of this region had never supported any kind of communalism. "They never encouraged the communal politics practised either by the Hindus or Muslims even before independence.
The people were wedded to secularism," he said. In an obvious reference to MIM, he said, the party had ventured into Seemanchal region to divide Muslim votes and thus indirectly helping the BJP. Its attempts, however, were thwarted by the people in the region, he pointed out.
He felt that the demolition of Babri Masjid was aimed at tarnishing the secular credentials of India. The final decision on Babri Masjid would be decided in the court and not on streets. He urged Congress workers to fight against the communal forces and strengthen secularism to protect the Constitution.
He said the BJP and Sangh Parivar were bereft of leaders who fought in the freedom struggle. They made an attempt to project Sardar Vallabhai Patel as their (BJP and RSS) and now they were on a mission to project B R Ambedkar, he said.
TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress would never enter into an alliance with any communal party. The MIM, he said, had gained strength in the Old City with the support of the Congress. Now, the MIM was trying to hurt the Congress prospects, he added.
Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, GHCC Minorities Department Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, GHCC general secretary Syed Nizamuddin and TPCC Minorities Department Chairman Fakhruddin also spoke.
