Khammam: Very much on the predicted line, former MLC Balasani Lakshminarayana, who along with Tummala Nageswara Rao joined the TRS last year, has been rewarded with the ticket for the ensuing elections for the Council seat from the Khammam local bodies Constituency.

It may be mentioned here that a host of Telugu Desam Party leaders including Balasani Lakshminarayana, party district president Kondabala Koteswara Rao, Khammam Zilla Parishad Chairperson G Kavitha, District Cooperative Marketing Society Chairman A Anjaiah and District Cooperative Bank Chairman Muvva Vijay Babu and scores of MPTCs, ZPTCs and Sarpanches have joined the TRS toeing the line of senior leader Tummala Nageswara Rao.

All of a sudden, the TRS, which never won a MPTC or a ZPTC seat in the district, has become a force to reckon in Khammam politics after Tummala took over the reins of the party. It’s said that Balasani, who hails from Venkatapuram in Bhadrachalam division, was given an assurance by the TRS Chief K Chandrashekar Rao to send him to Council.

On the other hand, senior CPI leader and former legislator Puvvada Nageswara Rao, who entered the poll fray as the common candidate of the CPI and CPM, is banking on the support of Telugu Desam and Congress. Although, both the parties have not announced it officially, it appears certain that they will support Puvvada.

Seeking support of all the Left and democratic forces to defeat the ruling TRS, Puvvada Nageswara Rao told The Hans India: “We are pretty confident that both the Congress and the TDP will support us.” Puvvada represented as MLC twice (in 1980 and 2007) and MLA twice (in 1989 and 1994) from Khammam. He also worked as protem speaker in 2007. The senior leader, who belongs to Kunavaram (now in AP) mandal, has been with the CPI for the last 40 years and has worked in different capacities for the party.

Meanwhile, the YSR Congress is yet to decide its candidate for the Council seat.
