Khammam: The sarpanch of Rajudevarapadu village, Ramana Reddy, created a flutter by climbing up a cell tower on Tuesday demanding the State government that they declare compensation for the fields which dried up due to scarcity of the water.

He was protesting against the government’s apathy. According to the reports, the sarpanch climbed on to the cell tower holding the government responsible for the drying up of fields as they did not release the water from the Sagar canal when there was a scarcity of water in the mandal.

He also blamed the State government for not declaring Khammam as a drought-hit district. He demanded compensation to all those farmers who were facing hardships due the withering away of crops.

Meanwhile, officials of the Revenue, Police and Agricultural Departments rushed to the spot and assured him that the issue would be taken up with higher officials
