Khammam/Warangal: At a time when the country is witnessing a widespread debate on ‘intolerance’, here is an Urs that glorifies Hindu-Muslim unity. The annual two-day Nagul Meera Urs of Hazarath Nagul Meera Dargah Sharif, which manifests a classic example of communal integrity and harmony, is all set to begin at a forest location near Satyanarayanapuram village under Yellandu mandal in Khammam district on Thursday.

The Urs, started on Mohurrum in 1972, signifies its tryst with religion, where it does not matter whether the priest is a Hindu or a Muslim; all that matters was faith and spiritual insight of people those who attend in thousands. The dargah that falls close on the border of Khammam-Warangal districts is hugely decked up with festoons and series bulbs; glimpse a village fair celebration of the vibrant culture and heritage of the region.

The high note of the Urs is that for over three decades the local Muslims and Hindus not only participate in the festivity but also run it with utmost commitment. The ritual starts with Satyanarayanapuram temple committee members carrying new‘Chadars’ to Nagul Meera from Hazarath Kasim Dulha Dargah Shariff at Number 2 Basti of Yellandu town on Thursday. ‘Sandal’ will be applied to Chadars before they were laid on the Baba’s mausoleum in the night.

On Friday, there would be a huge and colourful ‘Kandil julus’ (procession) beginning from Yellandu carrying ‘Nishani’ of Nagul Meera on a chariot and Mahboob Subani Nishani on camels to Nagul Meera. The julus includes Kommu dance by tribal women from Chintoor besides the Kolatam of the local women.

After the recital of Dua, sandal paste will be distributed to devotees. The Hazarath Kasim Youth Club (HKYC) will arrange the dawath to all the devotees, cutting across religious lines, coming from all over the region including neighbouring Warangal, Nalgonda, Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts. The urs will conclude with ‘Salami’ programme.

Though the Urs is organised by the Hazarath Kasim Dulha Dargah Shariff maliks and Satyanarayanapuram Temple Committee members, it’s learnt that Anumula Lakshminarayana, who is well versed with the Muslim procedures, will head the rituals.
